Flopnado is a free HUD for PokerStars. PokerStars allows HUDs, and Flopnado has been through PokerStars' review. After every hand, it reads the hand history file PokerStars saves and updates the stats on each player at your table. This guide shows where those files are, then walks through the whole setup.

Where PokerStars saves your hands

Paste this path

%LOCALAPPDATA%\PokerStars\HandHistory

Inside it there's a folder for each screen name you play under. Yours is the one Flopnado needs.

Windows hides AppData, so paste the path rather than clicking around for it. %LOCALAPPDATA% is a shortcut Windows understands. It takes you to your own AppData\Local folder, whatever your Windows user name is.

If the folder is still empty after a few hands, check in the PokerStars settings that it's saving your hand histories.

Set up the HUD

Open Flopnado and click HUD at the top of the main window. The HUD panel opens. Everything is done from here, in six steps.

The HUD panel. The numbers match the steps below.
  1. Site: pick PokerStars.
  2. Folder: show Flopnado where PokerStars saves your hands.
  3. Hero: type your screen name.
  4. Hero seat: pick the seat you sit in.
  5. Import: load hands you've already played. This one is optional.
  6. Start overlay: turn the HUD on.

Steps 1 and 2: Site and Folder

Set Site to PokerStars. Then click Folder, and a Select Folder window opens.

  1. With Site set, click Folder.
  2. Click the address bar at the top of the Select Folder window. Paste the path from above and press Enter.
  3. Click once on your username folder to highlight it. Its name shows in the Folder box at the bottom.
  4. Click Select Folder.
PokerStars. Here the username folder is Patkinwings. Yours will have your screen name. The numbers match the steps.

When the folder is right, the bar at the bottom of the HUD panel says Watching, followed by your folder. Flopnado remembers the folder for each site, so you only do this once.

Step 3: Hero, your screen name

Type your PokerStars screen name exactly as it shows at the tables. As you type, names from your hand histories come up as suggestions. Flopnado remembers it for next time.

The vs me view, further down, is built from your name. It only counts hands Flopnado reads while your name is filled in. So fill it in before you import or start playing.

Step 4: Hero seat

Pick the number of the seat you sit in. This is how Flopnado numbers the seats:

Flopnado puts your own box at that seat and turns the other boxes round with it, so each box sits next to the right player. The seat only moves the boxes. It doesn't change any numbers.

Step 5: Import the hands you've already played

If you've played on PokerStars before, click Import. Flopnado reads every hand already in your folder. The HUD then starts with stats on players you've met before, instead of from zero.

Import only works while the overlay is off. A bar shows how far it has got. Hands Flopnado already has are skipped, so importing twice does no harm.

Step 6: Start the overlay

Click Start overlay. Flopnado finds your open PokerStars tables by itself. It reads the hand history to work out whether each table is 6-max or 9-max, so you don't have to tell it. A table's boxes appear once its next hand is played.

Four tables at once, each with its own boxes.

The free HUD runs on up to four tables at a time. Each table gets its own boxes, and they follow the table if you move it or resize it.

Moving the boxes

  • Drag a box to move it. While the button on the panel says Locked, all the boxes on that table move together. Click it to switch to Unlocked, and each box moves on its own.
  • Rotate left and Rotate right fix boxes that are all one seat out. Click until each box sits next to the right player.
  • Layout: when it all looks right, click Save and give the layout a name. Next time, pick it from the list. It keeps your name and seat too.
  • Format switches between a line of stats and a box. Size makes everything bigger or smaller. Names shows or hides player names on the boxes.

To turn the HUD off, click Stop overlay.

What you see at the table

One line of stats above each player.

Each player gets a line. It starts with their name and how many hands you have on them, so "5h" means five hands. Then come VPIP, PFR, aggression, 3-bet, fold to 3-bet and c-bet. Your own line is there too, at your seat. The numbers update after every hand.

Click the + at the end of a line to open that player's popup.

The popup: every stat on one player, in Preflop, Postflop and General.

The popup shows every stat on that player. Preflop covers things like 4-bets, steals, fold to steal and blind defence. Postflop covers c-bets, donk bets, floats, check-raises and how often they fold to a bet. General has the overall numbers, like how often they win at showdown.

At the top are three buttons: FLP, TRN and RVR. Press one, and every postflop stat is worked out again from that street only.

TRN pressed. This player c-bets the turn 67% of the time, over 13 turn spots.

So instead of one c-bet number mixed across all three streets, you see how they play the turn on its own. The counter next to the buttons says how many spots the numbers come from, like "13 turn spots". That tells you how far to trust them. Went to showdown and won when saw flop stay in General, because they cover the whole hand.

Not sure what a stat means? Hover over it and Flopnado explains it. Every stat is also explained on the stats page.

Three ways to view stats

The Stats button on the panel switches the view. Each click moves to the next one, and every box at the table changes at once.

Stats: all

Every hand you have on each player, added up. This is the normal view, and it's free.

Stats: position

Only the hands each player played from the seat they're in now. Most players play very differently from different seats, and one overall number hides that.

Say a player has 19% VPIP overall. That looks tight. But from the button, they play 45% of their hands. In this view, when they're on the button, you see the 45%. When the button moves, their numbers move with it. If they've never played a hand from that seat, it shows zero, not their overall number.

Stats: vs me

The reverse HUD. The box over each opponent shows your own stats, from the hands you've played with that player. It's how you look to them. Their box says "Hero" instead of their name, so you always know which view you're in.

Say Dave has sat at your table for 500 hands, and the box over Dave says you raise 35% of hands. That's how loose you look to Dave. The new player beside him has only seen 10 of your hands. To him, you're a stranger. It counts every hand that player was dealt into, even the ones they folded straight away, because they still saw what you did.

Position and vs me come with the paid licence. Both are included in the 48-hour trial, so you can try them first.

Pick your stats

Click HUD settings on the panel. The settings window opens.

  1. At the top right, pick Line or Box. Line is one row of stats. Box puts rows of stats under the player's name.
  2. Drag a stat from the list on the left onto the table line, or into the popup.
  3. Drag the chips on the line to change their order. Click the × on a chip to take it off.
  4. Click a stat's dot to change its colour.
  5. Click Apply.
Line style. The numbers match the steps above. The previews show how the line and the popup will look.

The previews on the right update as you go, so you see the line and the popup before you apply anything. Under Display, you can change the background, add a separator between stats, and turn stat names on or off. You can also set how many stats sit on each row of the popup.

Box style. Click + Add row for another row of stats.

Your own results

The same hands that feed the HUD also feed Flopnado's analytics, and they're free too. Click Charts on the panel. It opens while PokerStars is closed, so it's for after a session, not during one.

Analytics. P&L against EV P&L, with showdown and non-showdown lines, and your own stats on the right.

Across the top: hands played, net winnings, big blinds won per 100 hands, how many hands you won, and your biggest win and loss.

  • Chart draws your winnings over time against your EV winnings. EV is what you'd have won if every all-in had paid out exactly what your hand was worth. If the EV line is well above the real one, you've been unlucky, not playing badly. Two more lines split your winnings into hands that went to showdown and hands that didn't.
  • Session shows each session as a bar, so you can see your good and bad days.
  • Heatmap shows which starting hands make you money and which lose it.
  • Hands is a list of every hand, which you can filter, with a replayer. As you step through a hand, it shows your equity, the pot odds and the EV. Opponents' ranges come from their VPIP, or from a range you've saved.

On the right are your own stats, the same ones the HUD shows on other players. You can filter by position, like the button or the big blind, and by time, like the last 7 days.

Questions people ask

Is the Flopnado HUD really free?

Yes. The HUD and the analytics are free forever, at every stake, with no time limit and no card needed. Stats: position, Stats: vs me, the calculators and the GTO solver come with a €20 one-time licence, and they're all in the 48-hour trial.

Does it work on a Mac?

Yes. Flopnado has Mac downloads for Apple chip and Intel Macs. PokerStars has a Mac app too. The folders on this page are the Windows ones.

Does it work in tournaments as well as cash games?

Yes. Flopnado reads cash game and tournament hand histories, and the HUD works in both.

Can I use Flopnado's calculators while I play?

No. The calculators and the GTO solver lock while a real-money table is open. The HUD keeps running.
